of her, my people,

so that you will not participate in her

of her plagues,’”

Was Yahshua Nailed to a Cross? (a deeper study)

Keeping prophecy in mind, what did young Isaac carry to the altar? Genesis 22:6. Is this similar to what Yahshua did? John 19:17.

Note: Isaac carried bundled wood (Strong’s Hebrew # 6086 ets {ates}, meaning tree, wood, timber, stake, or plank) that would have probably looked like a single stake having been bound together, but not a double beamed cross. What Yahshua carried was a single stake (Strong’s Greek # 4716 stauros, meaning stake, or upright stake…root of # 2476 histemi, meaning to stand, or cause to stand, or stand up). The confusion of the cross comes from the Latin translation of the Greek word stauros. The Latin word crux was used, which does mean a double-beamed cross.

“stauros NT: 4716 denotes, primarily, ‘an upright pole or stake.’ On such malefactors were nailed for execution. Both the noun and the verb stauroo, ‘to fasten to a stake or pole,’ are originally to be distinguished from the ecclesiastical form of a two beamed ‘cross.’ The shape of the latter had its origin in ancient Chaldea, and was used as the symbol of the god Tammuz (being in the shape of the mystic Tau, the initial of his name) in that country and in adjacent lands, including Egypt.

By the middle of the 3rd cent. A.D. the churches had either departed from, or had travestied, certain doctrines of the Christian faith. In order to increase the prestige of the apostate ecclesiastical system pagans were received into the churches apart from regeneration by faith, and were permitted largely to retain their pagan signs and symbols. Hence the Tau or T, in its most frequent form, with the cross-piece lowered, was adopted to stand for the "cross" of [Messiah].” (from Vine's Expository Dictionary of Biblical Words, Copyright (c)1985, Thomas Nelson Publishers)
Do any examples of impalement (i.e., death by placing an individual upon a stake or plank) exist in the Old Testament? See Ezra 6:11

“the customs of the

people are worthless,”

— Jer10:3 ASV

Note: The word “timber” in Ezra 6:11 is Strong’s Aramaic/Hebrew # 636 a {aw}, meaning wood, beam, or timber. It is possible that this is referring to wood being used to build a gallow. It is also just as possible that it is referring to an upright stake in which to hang, by nailing an individual on to it, lifting it and the person into a short dug hole which would keep the person and beam in an upright position. Either would be a terrible death, but the later even more so as it is a lengthy and humiliating death, just like the one our Savior endured on the torture-stake     Are people who are wearing crosses, as a symbol of faith, doing what is right in Yahweh’s sight? Exodus 20:3-6 (Deut 5:7-10).

The “Cross” is of pagan origin going all the way back to the worship of Tammuz found in Ezekial 8:12-16. The men were facing the rising sun (facing east) probably pleading with Estarte (Ishtar) for Tammuz’s re-birth. They could have been wearing or even holding Tammuz’s symbol of the cross up to this pagan goddess.

Does pagan worship sound similar to an Easter Sunrise Service? What does Yahweh say about such worship?  Deuteronomy 12:30-32.  Did Moses put up a banner which could be representative or symbolic of the healing Yahshua offers, since He was put up on a stake? Numbers 21:9. Moses would not have used a pagan cross, but rather just a pole (stake) to have the banner on. Did the people end up worshiping the object anyway? 2 Kings 18:4. What did Yahweh say about the people? Exodus 32:9. Yahweh’s people today have an advantage in that the Spirit dwells within, which helps each to overcome and not to become affixed on objects on earth, but rather to fix their attention on the unseen things above.

Outreach Fund Closed
It’s sad to say that we’re temporarily closing our outreach fund due to a lack of donations for it at this time. We will still do what outreach we can, but just not in the larger way we had hoped.  We will take the limited funds that came in and use them to the best of our ability to help those overseas that are in need. A heartfelt thanks to all those that contributed to this specific outreach fund.

Year End Statements
2007 has been a challenging year, but not too bad for the 1st year of Yahweh’s Assembly in Yahshua. We hope to do more in 2008, as Yahweh allows us. We are certainly grateful to Yahweh and to those who have kept us in prayer and others for their dedication and offerings to the work. A 2007 donation statement will be mailed out by the 2nd week of January. Checks must be dated by December 31, 2007 to show up on the 2007 year end statement.

Islam and Christians in the News

“Malaysia's top civil court Wednesday rejected a woman's appeal to be recognized as a Christian, in a landmark case that tested the limits of religious freedom in this moderate Islamic country. Lina Joy, who was born Azlina Jailani, had applied for a name change on her government identity card. The National Registration Department obliged but refused to drop Muslim from the religion column. She appealed the decision to a civil court but was told she must take it to Islamic Shariah courts. Joy, 43, argued that she should not be bound by Shariah law because she is a Christian.

“A three-judge Federal Court panel ruled by a 2-1 majority that only the Islamic Shariah Court has the power to allow her to remove the word ‘Islam’ from the religion category on her government identity card.” Eileen Ng (Putrajaya, Malaysia) for the Associated Press (May 31, 2007).

“All over Turkey, Christians are under attack. In January Hrant Dink, an ethnic Armenian newspaper editor, was shot dead in Istanbul by a teenager who said he had ‘insulted Turkishness’. In April two Turks and a German, all evangelists, were murdered in Malatya. Their killers bound and tortured them before slitting their throats. In December an Italian Catholic priest was knifed by a teenager in Izmir. Another Italian priest was shot dead in Trabzon in 2006.

“Many blame the attacks on a new ultra-nationalism, tinged with Islamic militancy, that has swept across Turkey. Unemployed teenagers in the Black Sea region seem especially prone to it. ‘The plight of Christians is critical,’ says Husnu Ondul, president of the Ankara-based Turkish Human Rights Association.” The Cross and the Crescent, by The Economist (Dec 19, 2007).

“Those who say that Islam is peace constantly invoke Qur’anic injunctions against killing innocents. But Osama insists that his victims were not innocents. The terrorists kill unbelievers in keeping with the commands of Allah’s book and the example of his Prophet. They plot to strike as hard as they can at the nation who, in their view, has humiliated, and oppressed the House of Islam —– and they do this because the Qur’an tells them to.” Islam Unveiled: Disturbing Questions About the World’s Fastest-Growing Faith, by Robert Spencer.

Praise Yahweh! For he has heard my cry for mercy. Yahweh is my strength, my shield from every danger. I trust in him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving. Yahweh protects his people and gives victory to his anointed...Save your people! Bless Israel, your special possession! Lead them like a shepherd, and carry them forever in your arms.
