“ ‘From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks.

Count off fifty days up to the day after the

seventh Sabbath,’”

Pentecost

Pentecost means to count 50 in the Greek, and is in reference to the Feast of Weeks which we are told to keep holy. It is 50 days (7 complete weeks, plus 1 day) after the weekly Sabbath that the Feast of Weeks is to be kept. It always falls on the 1st day of the week (Sunday), since it is always counted from the day after the weekly 7th day Sabbath (Strong’s # 7676, not to be confused with #7677, a high day Sabbath) during the Feast of Unleavened Bread. This day following the weekly Sabbath is the day the wave sheaf offering was made after the Israelites entered the Promised Land. This wave sheaf offering is symbolic of Yahshua, the very first of the coming first-fruits. Pentecost, also called Feast of Weeks or Feast of First-Fruits, represents the second harvest season – the harvesting of wheat – the harvesting of first-fruits.

Feast of Weeks is a sojourning Feast. In other words, one is to travel to this particular Feast where Yahweh has placed His Name. Pentecost is easily recognized by most, but many fail to recognize the other Feasts surrounding it, such as the Feast of Unleavened Bread which precedes it, or the Feast of Trumpets, which follows it.

The book of Ruth in the Bible is a good reading for the time of Pentecost, because it shows how one who is not of the family of Yahweh can soon become part of the family through trust and obedience. Ruth, though a Moabitess (Gentile), becomes an Israelite through a number of events. A similar process occurs when we receive the Spirit, and are grafted into the family olive tree.

Feast of Weeks is a memorial of the giving of the law from Mt. Sinai, and is recognized as the outpouring of Yahweh’s Spirit on those who accept Yahshua’s sacrifice for their lives to become first-fruits in the coming Savior and King. We look forward to being the bride for the returning Husband, in the first resurrection, where she has “made herself ready (Rev 19:9),” and the bridesmaids (possibly those who come through the tribulation) follow and are there at the wedding feast.

The Spirit was given to those who had traveled to keep this particular Feast. They received of this Spirit even before going to the Temple, which confirms Yahshua’s own words to the woman at the well, that there was coming a time when those that worship Yahweh, wherever they are, will neither do so at the Temple nor at Jerusalem, but will worship Him in His Spirit and in His Truth. The Spirit is given to stay in the New Testament,

unlike in the Old Testament, in which the Spirit was given, but then taken away after it accomplished its purpose.

One of the other changes we see with Pentecost in the New Testament is it opens the door for women more than any other event in history, as they are considered equal co-heirs in Yahshua the Messiah. They may now be baptized whereas only men used to be ceremonially washed. Yahshua started to show the way by treating even a Samaritan woman with respect and equality.

Guidelines for teaching and leading within an Assembly are sometimes a hot topic for debate in some circles today, but there are New Testament examples that set the standard. Men (12 disciples) were chosen by Yahshua and deacons (men servants) were specifically chosen by the members. The Apostle Paul said there was a particular headship, and that women, though equal co-heirs to the Abrahamic promises, are to be in submission to their own husbands and not allowed to rule or teach in the Assembly. The examples are that the older women are to teach the younger women, and the children are to be taught by both.

Economic Adjustments

While we don’t like the economic situation we find the world in, we need to continue reaching out. We hear of people continuing to lose work and homes. While not at all pleasant at the time, we do find hope that there is something better coming in the future. We are here as sojourners as we strive to build good character in line with Yahweh’s Word and Spirit. Many brethren do not have homes and barely make ends meet. This is especially true in other countries besides America or Europe. However, the once prosperous nations are starting to find the playing field a little more even now.

We are doing what we can here to maintain the quality of services while still continuing to send out more literature and materials. Some of the steps we’ve taken include the YAIY Beacon magazine being pulled from the printer to be done in-house on the copier. This will prevent too many copies from being produced and will save some on the printing itself.  This is not a huge savings, but it should add up over time.

The DVDs and CDs of the Sabbath services here in the United States will no longer be sent out in plastic cases, but will be rather sent in 6x9 envelopes with individual sleeves for each disc. The DVDs will continue to have the programs with songs on them.

We have sold a mower and it’s trailer along with a full size dual axle utility trailer to help cover maintenance costs that have arose recently. These items were no longer needed, but a new refrigerator was needed as the older unit we had started to fail with only the bottom half working.

While minor situations like this will arise, the larger picture of the outreach we do here with Yahweh’s Word needs to be provided for. We trust Yahweh will do just that. We also thank those who continue to offer up prayers to Yahweh for His work to continue moving forward. Yahweh be magnified.

Spring Planting Project

Yahweh blessed us with sunny dry weather for about a week which allowed us to get into the garden and plant. It was re-tilled, hoed, and fully planted. Once that was done the rains returned.

We are grateful for the few hands that have helped with their time and energy for this local project.  We see it as a lesson that even with just a few to help, much work can be accomplished. Though we do not yet see all the fruit of our labor, we trust that it will soon be evident in the weeks and months ahead.

Spiritually speaking, we see our work in the fields these last few years as positive. We know others are learning of Yahweh’s love for His people as well as the deeper scriptural truths that have been neglected for centuries. Let us continue to share Yahweh’s truth with others and be the light He has called us to be.

“Listen to my cry for help, my King and my Elohim, for to you I pray. In the morning, O Yahweh, you hear my voice;

in the morning I lay my requests before you

and wait in expectation,”

YAIY Web Statistics

The YAIY.org website visitors continue to increase, though in February we had a slight decline. The chart to the right gives us a visual of the number of  visitors.

While we are a very small assembly, we can make a difference and reach out beyond our borders. We do hope to do more in the months and years ahead with Yahweh’s help.

It seems especially important to help provide a firm foundation for the brethren in other nations who continue to reach out to their local communities. We’ve recently had requests for aid from brethren in India and the Philippines.

We believe our efforts must truly be worldwide to fulfill the great commission.
