What Bible Translation Should We Use?

This is the most common of all questions put to us when someone is moved into searching for more understanding of the Sacred Scriptures.

When visiting any religious or secular bookshop you are faced with a number of various translations of the Scriptures. In each presentation or edition available, the translators give their reason and basic understanding why they set themselves to publish “their” rendering of the Scriptures.

Our initial answer to a new believer is to hold on to the Bible already in their possession, something with which they are familiar. Then sit down and read it prayerfully, ridding yourself of any preconceived ideas, and teachings you have been given. Let the Word of Yahweh literally talk to you, Mark 10:15.

As you go through Scripture, mark or underline any section that is not clear to you. Should you find what you feel a contradiction, keep note of it, Ezekiel 44:5. If you are blessed by having other translations at hand, do comparisons of certain passages. So often, by comparing other versions, you may find it will make the statement or text in question much clearer.

It is also advisable, if there is a need for you to delve deeper into the Scriptures, to try to acquire a good Concordance, such as Strong’s Concordance or a Young’s Interlinear Bible, where you have the original Hebrew/English and/or Greek/English. It could be of great help depending on the verse.

Here is a word of warning, however: In all translations there is a degree of human error. You will find in many translations the translators have doctored phrases, even words, to suit “their” doctrine or line of thought. Some have gone so far as trying to manipulate prophecies in Sacred Scripture, such as the Moffatt Translation. Yet, Moffatt’s paraphrased word structure from Hebrew is a good study guide. It must be noted that even Strong’s and the Interlinear Bibles are not without faults.

With all we have said above, it still leaves the reader with the original question unanswered. Now let those who understand, let them understand! The little that has been mentioned above, we see the worldly learned in general have many more Bible translations, commentaries, and studies before them.  In churches, synagogues, colleges, universities, and libraries of the world we find this to be true. Yet, Yahweh Word states there are those who are continually learning but never attaining the knowledge of Yahweh’s Truth, 2nd Tim. 3:7.

Yahweh’s Word clearly tells us that Sacred Scripture is spiritually discerned. Read the entire 1st chapter of 1st Corinthians in any translation you have in hand; it will tell you where the natural man stands according to Yahweh’s Truth! By going further into Scripture in Revelation Chapters 2 and 3 Yahshua warns the Assemblies who gather in His Name that they have to cast out false doctrine and overcome the false teachings/preachings that are within the Assemblies. If possible, obtain Scriptures with the Sacred Names, which may also be downloaded from the Internet.

The original King James Version is still a good translation to work on, but we advise you to train yourself in using the Sacred Names. We have a chart (bookmark), “Correcting the Names in your Bible,” which we offer to anyone on request. For those in South Africa, the old Dutch Reformed Afrikaans Bible is a good study translation from the original Hebrew. I personally don’t recommend any of the “New”, “Modern” or “Living” versions (English or Afrikaans) which have not acknowledged or mentioned the Sacred Names in their print.

To those whom Yahweh calls, He alone lifts that veil which blinds the mind of mankind to this very day, 2nd Cor. 3:15. Try telling a Sunday worshiper to observe the true Sabbath! Try telling a Christian/Jewish Sabbath observer to observe Passover according to Yahshua’s instructions! Unless Yahweh’s Spirit is with them, you will only receive a very negative response.

Finally, we have to have the Faith only Yahweh can give us as we obediently read His Word that through His free pardon (grace), the Words He has given us is sufficient for our salvation, 2nd Cor. 3:5-6. Yes, there are difficult texts in Scripture, but always remember Yahweh is not the author of confusion and we are warned of the dangers of the scribes and Pharisees. Cast out of your mind anything contradictory to Yahweh’s Word. Our duty is to be obedient to His Word as it is revealed to us. Only then will we be on the path of Salvation through Yahshua Messiah.

May Yahweh bless His people in their search for His Truth, His law (Torah), His Forgiveness and Healing.

New Question and Answers Section

There is a new Question and Answers section online. If the answer being  sought is not on the Question and Answers section, the “Ask the Elders” forum is available. Here are a couple recent examples:

Q: What is the significance of wearing the garment with loose threads around the neck?

A: Some relate Psalm 91:1 as a reason for the prayer shawl (tallit).  Verse 4 is further pointed to as symbolic significance for this cloth with it's ztit ztits (strings) on each corner. They say this represents the wings of Yahweh. To me it seems better to say "wings" represents His Spirit.  Yahshua, they say, had healing in the strings and point to Luke 8:41-43, for example.  The hem/fringe (not necessarily tzit tzits) mentioned, since there were not four corners on a seamless robe, may have been on an extra garment thrown over His shoulder, Luke 6:29.  Some may argue He was wearing a prayer shawl, but clothing styles change over the years.

Just as a side, if there was a thought among the people of miraculous healing power in the ztit ztits then most likely the guards that divided His garments would have cut them off to properly divide them at least four ways. ....No indication of that happening, not in the prophecy concerning it and not in the account itself.

We don't question that a four cornered undergarment (tallit qatan) was worn underneath (Deut 22:12) Yahshua's one piece robe. However, the Pharisees, who we are not to emulate, had their ztit zits long to be seen from out the bottom of their robes or flamboyantly on the outside for everyone to see, Matt 23:5.

Yahshua's outward examples, of His inward heart, is our example. The Spirit is our guide to keeping the commandments today.

Q: Hello. I was wondering what and who is the morning star and why is the Messiah and the d-vil referred as it?

A: Satan was once beautiful and brilliant, evidently like a bright morning star: "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of Elohim; every precious stone was thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created," Ezekiel 28:13–14.

However, Lucifer, who became Satan, now only represents a counterfeit reflection of Yahshua the true and pure "Morning Star." Satan can only hope to deceive people into thinking he is the one to follow, as he attempts to pawn himself off as an angel of light, 2 Cor 11:13.

Sabbath Baptism

After  a year  of studying and recognizing the truth of Yahweh’s Word, Bobby Travis drove 10 hours to be with us before the evening of the weekly Sabbath on October 30th, 2010. Originally, Bobby’s brother, who was in prison at the time, related to him some for the deeper truths of Scripture that he had been introduced to earlier. He simply told Bobby, who was able to visit him, “Check it out for yourself and see if it’s true or not!”

The rest it history. It’s encouraging to know that those in prison are reaching out to family and friends with Yahweh’s Word, not in a condemning way, but just sharing as one would normally do with good news. And, indeed, this is the Good News and message of Yahshua the Messiah to all who will believe and obey, Acts 5:32.

“Let all things be done decently and in order,”

Post Feast Catch Up!

While the 2010 Feast of Tabernacles is now behind us, we find ourselves still behind from what we should be. We ask for Yahweh, to grant those who have written letters, to please be patience while we get to them slowly, but surely.

Another thing that we are eager to get done is the 2011 Calendar. We hope to have this finished by the end of November, plus a few years in advance, to allow those with long term appointments to plan appropriately. While our track record on the calendar has been spot-on the last couple of years, it is understood that Yahweh is in control and can adjust those dates from when we think they may occur. A prime example is what happened in 2005 when Israel gave away the Gaza area. Yahweh saw fit, evidently showing His displeasure, to separate a whole month from what would normally be only a few days to a week difference between the biblical reckoning of the calendar (Abib) versus the Gregorian calendar with it’s intercalations and various postponements.

The Bible Correspondence Course is still in the works. Adjustments have expanded its content and depth. Yahweh willing, it will be finalized along with the Teens for Yah website. The Bible Correspondence Course will be made available online and in print form.

A special thanks for all those helping with the different outdoor projects that we needed to do prior to this winter. The roof needed sealing on the work shed, while the roof of the assembly needed all the leaves removed out of the gutters.

With everyone’s help we can move forward in a larger and more productive way. The outreach is needing more donations and offerings to make ends meet. While we are keeping up with mailings going out to the United States, we see a struggle in meeting the heavy costs of the overseas mailings. Overseas elders and deacons continue to receive the regular mailings, but we’ve had to hold off from sending out to everyone that regularly receives the YAIY Beacon, YAIY News, Sisters for Yah, Kids for Yah, and the regular mailings of DVDs and CDs.

The Revealing the Truth program continues to be a large canvassing outreach for many areas. We thank Yahweh for allowing us to move forward doing these things.

Your help, as you are moved by Yahweh’ s Spirit, is much appreciated. Then he said to his disciples, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the laborers are few; therefore pray earnestly to the Master of the harvest to send out laborers into his harvest,’” Matthew 9:37–38 ASV.
