Who was EliYah?

Inside this issue:

EliYah was an obedient prophet of Yahweh.  At the time, the wicked King Ahab       Who was EliYah? .
and his evil queen, Jezebel, were ruling over Israel.  They were worshipping Baal       Personality Profile
instead of Yahweh.  They hated the prophets of Yahweh and had many of them       EliYah & the Drought
    killed.

"As they were

EliYah lived in the desert and
walking along and

was fed by ravens. In time, EliYah
talking together

confronted King Ahab,  “Let’s see
suddenly a chariot

once and for all if Baal is the true

mighty one.”  So the priests of Baal
of fire appeared

it.  They cried out for hours and

Yahweh.  He even flooded it with

water to prove that Yahweh could

consume it even if it was wet.  Then EliYah prayed to Yahweh and fire came down from heaven and burned up the sacrifice, the wood, the stones, the soil, and the water in the trench.  All the people then agreed, “Yahweh is the true Elohim!”  Then EliYah had the prophets of Baal killed.  This made Jezebel furious.  She vowed to have EliYah killed for this.  So EliYah ran for his life.

But Yahweh protected EliYah and Jezebel was killed.  Many miracles were performed by Yahweh through EliYah.  He truly was an obedient prophet.   May we all be as faithful to Yahweh!

Personality Profile:  Jezebel

Many people have wondered why EliYah ran for his life when Jezebel threaten-ed to kill him.  After all, he had seen Yahweh’s miracles with his own eyes.  We can glean a little more background information from the historian, Josephus.  In his writings, Josephus recorded Jezebel’s family history.  Apparently, Jezebel’s father was a high priest in a pagan temple in Tyre.  His reign was characterized by murderous idolatries and a reckless contempt for human rights.  Evidently, his daughter Jezebel followed in his footsteps.  Her reputation was such that she even struck terror in the heart of Yahweh’s own prophet!

EliYah and the Drought

EliYah and the land of Israel suffered through a terrible drought.  The drought lasted for three years.
Even in our modern world, some parts of the earth still suffer from droughts.  Do you know what a
drought is?
