Samson’s Mistakes

For His parents, Samson was an answer to prayer.  He was to do Yahweh’s work by punishing the Philistines who were ruling Israel a very long time ago.  The Philistines treated the Hebrews very cruelly. Yahweh gave Samson incredible physical strength to even kill a ferocious lion with his bare hands!  As Samson grew up, Yahweh blessed him.

In time, Samson married a Philistine woman.  This was a bad idea to begin with.  The young woman’s family refused to give her to Samson because he teased her family.  Then events transpired and Samson was able to destroy 1000 Philistine men with only the jaw bone of a donkey.

Then Samson said to the lad who held him by the hand, “Let me feel the pillars which support the temple, so that I can lean on them.”

                  —Judges 16:26 NKJV

Samson made a series of bad mistakes in his life that caused Yahweh to remove Samson’s strength.  The Philistines were able to capture Samson and imprison him.  They gouged out Samson’s eyes.  The Philistines held a celebration at the temple of their false deity and brought Samson out to mock him.  There were three thousand Philistines attending the festival.  Samson was such a broken man by that time that he prayed to Yahweh for one last time to give him strength to kill all the Philistines in the pagan temple and for Yahweh to just let him die with the Philistines.  Yahweh granted Samson’s request.  Samson caused the entire temple to crumble to the ground, killing everyone inside, including himself.  Samson killed more Philistines in his death than when he was alive.

Easy Cool Treats That Kids Can Make!

Ah, the carefree days of summer!  Stay cool this season by making your own warm-weather treats.  Please ask your parents for their permission before trying these ideas.  Parental supervision is needed.

Make your own ice cream in a bag:

It’s easy.  All you need are the following items for one serving:

1 tablespoon sugar

1/2 cup milk or half and half

1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract

6 tablespoons rock salt

1 pint-sized plastic food storage bag (such as Ziploc)

1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag.

How to make it:

Fill the large bag half full of ice.  Add the rock salt.  Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag  and seal it.  Place the small bag inside the large one and seal carefully.  Shake until the mixture is thick like ice cream.  This takes about 5 minutes.  Wipe off the top of the small bag and open carefully.  Enjoy!  Recipe can be doubled for 2 servings, but don’t increase the proportions more than that or the bag of ice will be too heavy to shake!

Make your own freezer pops!

One of the best things about making your own freezer pops is you get to make them the way you like them.  And depending on the ingredients you choose, the sugar content can be much lower than store bought ones.  All you need are freezer pop molds found in most stores.  Simply mix your ingredients, pour into the mold, then pop them into the freezer  Here are some ideas to get you started:

1.  Pureed fruit mixed with your favorite kosher yogurt.

2.  Ice cream mixed with small chunks of fruit.  Add a little milk to make it pourable.

3.  Your favorite fruit juices or lemonade.
